ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Though the stories Patrick Rogers writes are imagined in made-up worlds with fictional characters, they are inspired by the time-honored virtues at the heart of all true spiritual paths.

Patrick’s interest in mystics, masters and saints goes way back. Earlier in life he came to believe that we are first and foremost spiritual beings, each with a unique divine destiny to discover.

Patrick has worked as a reporter for a daily newspaper, the editor of a national mental health publication and as a writing instructor for an online university. The Secret Guardians books are his first novels. He lives in Bozeman, Montana.

IN THE SECRET GUARDIANS SERIES

The Girl Who Walked into the Light

Irish orphan Jian Byrne is beautiful, gifted and lost. She can see people’s auras, travel out-of-body to realms on high, and remember perfectly. But her missing family is a wound that has never healed. When her grandmother dies, Jian falls hard. She is lured into the local drug scene. A rescue begins.

One night while she sleeps, a fiery being appears and reminds her of the mission she was born to fulfill. She is guided to great friends of light, comes face to face with diabolical takers, and resurrects an almost hopeless quest to find her family.

The Girl Who Walked into the Light begins the story of a humble girl’s journey of rediscovery of who and what she really is. And what she is meant to become.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

When I began chronicling Jian’s story a decade ago, I did not know where it would lead. Yes, it was rather foolish to set out on a literary quest with little more than a vague idea of the sign posts along the way and what awaited at journey’s end. Yet I began. Simultaneously, I searched for direction in the collective wisdom of other writers who had traveled the fabled hero’s journey road before me.

But as with Jian’s schooling, book learning was not enough. My lessons had to be taken directly from one remarkable editor who put her heart and soul into the project. For without Amber Helt of Rooted in Writing these books would be a pale reflection of what they are today. Amber’s excellent assistant editor Kristen Bickerstaff also jumped in at the end of the project to get the story to the finish line.

I also gratefully acknowledge the editorial assistance of Carla Groenewegen and Timothy Connor, as well as the invaluable contributions of Simone Guridi Muñoz, George Makris, Ana Luque, Sebastian Castro, Florecita Rogers, Linda Cruse-Robin, Keith and Neena Stevens, Christina Sarlo, and especially my dear wife, Celeste, for her gentle care and patience along the way. Thanks also to Zoya Reed and Yaroslavna Sanislo for their translations of English phrases into Russian and Ukrainian. And without Simone’s work on thesecretguardians.com website we would not be able to deliver books to readers.

Finally, I would like to thank my son Raphael Rogers for his inspirational cover of Jian walking toward the light among wintry pines, as well as the staff at Damonza who embellished the original cover and carried its theme flawlessly through the cover designs of the second and third books of the series.
